ode to mud pies and magic rocks

There is a force that drives children to nature. To climb trees and make botanical potions. To pick through creeks for magic rocks and sit under the shade of a fruit tree. You may ask, but don’t adults do these things too? And it's true, they do. But to run around in the tall grass is to collect a bounty of ticks, and to play in the mud is to taint the pants purchased with last week’s paycheck. Life and responsibility reign you back from the sweet calling of the trees. And to choose to live in nature? Well, aren’t we young adults supposed to indulge in the buzz of city life over the buzz of insects? We are a social species, yes, but we are also a natural being. One that is called back to the natural world from the element of our creation.
